IPPT Frequently asked questions 2024
1. Will the VFT sessions count towards my 10-session NS FIT requirements? Yes, attendance for VFT will count towards the NSmen’s NS FIT requirements. However, these sessions have to be booked on NS Portal first before NSmen participate in such sessions.
2. Are NS FIT sessions counted toward my NS liability? NS FIT sessions will count towards your annual 40-day limit for NS call-ups, capped at 10 sessions inclusive of one IPPT attempt within the IPPT window. The sessions will not be accumulated to clock a High-Key within the work year.
3. Will I still be able to do my VFT if I am late due to unforeseen circumstances? No. You must be punctual for your training. The fitness instructor would not allow you to join the training if you are late.
4. Am I covered for injuries sustained during VFT? Yes, if you sustained any injuries during VFT after the class has commenced. Injured NSmen are required to inform the Fitness Instructor immediately, if you have sustained any injuries during the training. You are also required to inform your unit on the day of the injury thereafter.
5. What if I cannot attend a VFT which I have booked? You should amend or cancel your booking via NS Portal to free up the session for other NSmen. Note that cancellations and amendments can only be done at least 48 hours before the booked date.
6. What if I am not feeling well during the training? For your own safety, you should stop training and inform the fitness instructor immediately.
7. Can NSmen who are 35 years old and above book VFT when they have not passed their pre-IPPT medical screening? For the safety of NSmen, those who have not cleared their pre-IPPT medical screening will not be allowed to book the session. Likewise, NSmen not certified fit to take IPPT are also not allowed to book the session.
8. Will I be allowed to do VFT if I have recently been diagnosed with and/or medically treated for an illness/injury? Please do not join the training. You should see a doctor and if necessary, submit a request for medical review using the Manage Medical e-Service on NS Portal.
9. Can the Customer Support Officer (CSO) from NS Portal Call Centre book the VFT on my behalf? No, you must login and book the session personally via NS Portal.
10. Can I make amendments to my VFT bookings? All amendments can be done online via the Manage IPPT and NS FIT e-Service on NS portal. Any amendment must be done at least 48 hours before the session start date.
11. Do I need to complete any IPPT session first before I can book a VFT session? No, there is no requirement for NSmen to attempt IPPT first before booking any NS FIT session in NS Portal. However, you are required to attempt one IPPT as part of the 10-session NS FIT programme. If you pass your IPPT at any point within your IPPT window, you will be deemed to have fulfilled your annual fitness requirements and will not need to complete the remaining NS FIT sessions.
12. What should I do if the VFT sessions are fully booked on NS Portal? You can opt to participate in other NS FIT options, such as FIT @ HomeTeamNS Gyms, FIT @ Home Team Academy (for SPF NSmen) and FIT @ Civil Defence Academy (for SCDF NSmen).
13. Why am I not able to book my 10th NS FIT session? If you have attended 9 NS FIT sessions and have not attempted IPPT, you will not be able to book anymore NS FIT sessions. You are required to attempt one IPPT in order to complete the 10-session NS FIT programme. Please book your NS FIT-IPPT via NS Portal.
14. When will my VFT attendance be updated on NS Portal? It will take about 3 to 5 working days for your attendance to be updated on NS Portal.
GUIDE FOR HT NSMEN VIRTUAL FITNESS TRAINING (HOMETEAMNS)
MHA collaborated with HomeTeamNS to bring Virtual Fitness Training (VFT) to all Home Team NSmen, since 29 Sep 2020. Each session of VFT can be clocked as one session of NS Fitness Improvement Training (FIT).

How to Register
Step 1. Ensure that your email address and NOK contacts (for emergency contacts) are updated under eSelf-update in NS Portal. Your email address would be used for VFT registration thereafter.
Step 2. Book the VFT session on NS Portal, under FIT. Booking should be made at least 48 hours before the class date. Bookings should be made on weekdays instead of weekends to avoid NS Portal system maintenance
Step 3. Your email address extracted from NS portal eSelf-update will be sent over to HTNS. HTNS will send you a confirmation to your email address, one day before the class.
Step 4. You will receive a second email from HTNS containing the Zoom link. Click on the Zoom link to join the class! If you did not receive the Zoom link before the start of your registered session, please contact Fitness Workz at 6705 9422, or email to [email protected] for enquiries.

Safety Precautions
It is your responsibility as NSman to adhere to the following safety precautions: a. One-day of rest in between each IPPT/ FIT session; b. Attend only one fitness test/training session in one day; c. Ensure that there is sufficient open area for your virtual fitness training and there should be no furniture/objects/people obstructing you from doing the guided exercises; d. Ensure that you are dressed in proper physical training attire i.e. no slippers, no pyjamas, no office wear etc; e. Inform your family members when you are participating in the training;f. If you are not feeling well before the training starts, do not proceed to join the training; g. If you are recently diagnosed/treated for any illness/injuries, please go for a medical review with Home Team Medical Officer to have your medical condition ascertained; h. Stop training immediately if you are not feeling well, and inform the Fitness Instructor immediately. Switch on Your Camera

You need a laptop/ an IT device equipped with camera, with Zoom App installed and has at least 70 minutes of battery life. Ensure that the camera of your laptop/ IT device is switched on during the entire duration of the virtual fitness training, and remove your virtual background. This is to ensure that you are captured onscreen clearly at all times, to allow the Fitness Instructors to guide you during the training safely. Be Punctual
5. You must be punctual for your training. The fitness instructor would not allow you to join the training if you are late. To avoid delays due to possible connection issues, you are encouraged to login 10 – 15 min before the training starts. Attendance
6. You must ensure that your Full Name (as stated in your IC) are shown on Zoom for VFT, for attendance taking. If NSmen fail to adhere to this requirement, attendance will not be taken and it will not be counted as FIT. Your attendance captured during VFT will be recorded in NS Portal within three to five working days. Keep Yourself Hydrated

8. You will be paid half-day NS Service Rank Pay and Make-up Pay (where applicable) for each NS FIT session attended, capped at 10 sessions inclusive of one IPPT attempt within an IPPT window.
Annex A - Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) for Virtual Fitness Training (VFT)
Q1. Will the VFT sessions count towards my 10-session NS FIT requirements? Yes, attendance for VFT will count towards the NSmen’s NS FIT requirements. However, these sessions have to be booked on NS Portal first before NSmen participate in such sessions.

However, you are required to attempt one IPPT as part of the 10-session NS FIT programme. If you pass your IPPT at any point within your IPPT window, you will be deemed to have fulfilled your annual fitness requirements and will not need to complete the remaining NS FIT sessions.
Q13. What should I do if the VFT sessions are fully booked on NS Portal? If VFT are fully booked, you can opt to participate in other NS FIT options, such as FIT @ HTNS Gyms, FIT@Home Team Academy (for SPF NSmen), FIT@Civil Defence Academy (for SCDF NSmen).

Communications Advisory on National Service Fitness Improvement Training (NS FIT) for Home Team National Servicemen (HT NSmen)IntroductionHome Team takes alignment with MINDEF and the SAF to introduce NS Fitness Improvement Training (NS FIT) programme, to encourage our HT ORNSmen (NSmen) to incorporate fitness and regular exercise into their lifestyle.
NS FIT for HT NSmen will be effective from 1 June 2021 in tandem with the commencement of FY 2021 IPPT window.
The 10-session FIT will also streamline the criteria for NSmen to complete their annual fitness requirements.
Key Points
1. NS FIT will replace IPT and RT. The current IPPT Preparatory Training (IPT) and Remedial Training (RT) will be removed from the NS IPPT system for NSmen, and will be replaced by NS FIT from 1 June 2021 onwards. All IPPT-eligible NSmen will be eligible for NS FIT.
2. NS FIT consists of 9 training sessions + 1 IPPT attempt. NS FIT streamlines the annual fitness requirements for NSmen. Instead of attending the IPT or RT, NSmen will need to either pass IPPT or complete 10 sessions of NS FIT (which includes one IPPT attempt) to fulfil their annual fitness requirements. If NSmen have multiple IPPT attempts, only one IPPT attempt will be counted towards the 10-session NS FIT. If an NSman passes his IPPT at any point within his IPPT window, he will be deemed to have fulfilled his IPPT requirement for the year and does not need to complete the remaining NS FIT sessions.
3. Service Pay and Make-up Pay will be provided for NS FIT. NSmen will be eligible for Service Pay and Make-Up Pay (where applicable) for the NS FIT sessions attended, capped at 10 sessions inclusive of one IPPT attempt.
4. Transition to NS FIT. 5. Taking NS FIT. NSmen who are unable to pass their IPPT can opt to participate in NS FIT anytime within their IPPT window. NSmen who passed IPPT or completed 10 IPT sessions in FY 2020 can volunteer for NS FIT in FY 2021, while those who did notpass or attempt IPPT, or did not complete or attempt IPT in FY 2020, will have to take Mandatory NS FIT for FY 2021.
6. NS FIT locations* and options. The current locations for NS FIT are Home Team Academy (HTA), Civil Defence Academy (CDA) and HomeTeamNS Fitness Workz Gyms. Virtual options of NS FIT will be conducted by HomeTeamNS and SportSG. NSmen have to login to NS Portal to book these NS FIT options.(*Note: On-site NS FIT locations at HTA, CDA and HomeTeamNS Fitness Workz Gyms will be closed till 13 June 2021)

ANNEX AFREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ON NS FIT
Q1: What is NS Fitness Improvement Training (FIT)?The NS Fitness Improvement Training (FIT) programme encourages Operationally Ready National Servicemen (NSmen) to incorporate fitness and regular exercise into their lifestyles. The 10-session FIT offers more convenience and flexibility for NSmen to stay active. It will also streamline the criteria for NSmen to complete their annual fitness requirements.
Q2: What is the previous IPPT Preparatory Training (IPT) and Remedial Training (RT) system and what are the areas that have been streamlined?If an NSman is eligible for IPPT but is unable to achieve at least a pass in his IPPT, he can opt to participate in 10 voluntary IPT sessions. IPPT is conducted on his 1st and 10th IPT session. An NSman will fulfil his annual fitness requirements once he has completed the 10 IPT sessions within his IPPT window.An NSman needs to participate in RT for his current IPPT window if he (i) did not attempt his IPPT; (ii) failed his IPPT; or (iii) did not complete his IPT.NS FIT streamlines the annual fitness requirements for NSmen. Q6: Can an NSman take more than one IPPT in his 10-session NS FIT Programme?An NSman can attempt multiple IPPTs within his IPPT window. Only one IPPT will be counted towards his NS FIT requirement. If he passes his IPPT at any point within hisIPPT window, he will be deemed to have fulfilled his IPPT requirement for the year and does not need to complete the remaining NS FIT sessions.
Q7: Can NSmen opt to do NS FIT directly, without first attempting the IPPT?Yes, NSmen can opt to do NS FIT directly, without first attempting IPPT. NSmen can either (i) attempt and pass IPPT or (ii) complete a 10-session NS FIT programme (which includes one IPPT attempt).
Q8: If an NSman achieves a good IPPT result in the midst of the NS FIT programme, will he be eligible for monetary rewards?The same incentive scheme applies for all IPPT attempts, including IPPT taken as part of NS FIT. Should the NSman improve his result to be eligible for the next award level, he will be accorded the incremental difference between the awards.
Q9: Will NSmen be eligible for Service Pay and Make-Up Pay for the NS FIT sessions?Yes, NSmen will be eligible for Service Pay and Make-Up Pay (where applicable) for the NS FIT sessions attended, capped at 10 sessions inclusive of one IPPT attempt.
Q10: How has the disciplinary framework changed in the new IPPT System? What are the penalties for NSmen who do not complete the NS FIT programme?The prevailing disciplinary guidelines and management of IPPT-related offences apply. NSmen who fail to fulfil their annual NS fitness requirements will be subjected to the necessary disciplinary action.
Q11: Will the current IPPT defaulters have to participate in NS FIT?From 1 June 2021, IPPT defaulters (i.e. did not attempt IPPT or IPT) and NSmen who did not pass IPPT/complete IPT in FY 2020, will be required to participate in 10-session of Mandatory NS FIT for FY 2021.
Q12: Will HPB or SportSG programmes be included as part of NS FIT?HPB and SportSG’s on-site programmes are currently not available for NS FIT. MHA is currently working with both HPB and SportSG on the collaborations. More information will be provided when the details are ready.
Q13: How far in advance can I book my NS FIT sessions?NSmen can book their NS FIT 3 months in advance, via NS Portal. For FY 2021 IPPT window, NSmen can start booking NS FIT (Virtual Fitness Training) from 27 May onwards. As per past arrangements for IPT and RT, NSmen are required to have one- day of rest in between each NS FIT session.
Q14. Is each NS FIT session counted towards my NS liability?Yes. NS FIT will count towards the NSmen’s annual 40-day NS call-ups.
Q15. If I had attempted IPPT once before opting for NS FIT, will my past IPPT attempt be considered as one NS FIT session out of the 10-session programme?Yes, your past IPPT attempt (ICT-IPPT or non-ICT IPPT) will be considered as one NS FIT session.
Q16. Can I continue to book NS FIT sessions, if I have attempted and passed my IPPT?No. If an NSman passes his IPPT at any point within his IPPT window, he will be deemed to have fulfilled his IPPT requirement for the year and does not need to complete the remaining NS FIT sessions.
